There are 37 Flexible Studios which can be either be booked in advance or used on a drop in basis. These spaces have desks, sockets, natural light, walls for painting and attaching work.

Research based practices, digital work, designers and writers are welcome at Kindred. We have 10,000 sqft of open workspace and private spaces for confidential work and meetings.

Kindred Studios has been designed to couple private spaces with generous open plan areas for meetings, collaborative work as well as a balance to closed and open environments.

We are committed to creating as many sales opportunities for artists based in our building through the Open Studios, Public Events, Exhibitions, an Annual Art Fair and an Online Sales platform that is currently in development.

Working flexibly also means providing sufficient storage for artists and makers. We have a host of different storage options from cupboards, to lockers as well as a whole storage facility!

Some work is better done outdoors, like processes that involve toxic chemicals or produce lots of dust or noise. We have a huge 3,000 sqft terrace overlooking the canal that is there for you to do messier work.

Once you are part of the Kindred community, you have access across the whole building. We want people to visit studios, get to know people and build social and professional connections. All of the corridors and different floors feature large open areas to facilitate human connection – the most important part of Kindred.

Being based a big beautiful building like this is helpful in elevating artists careers. We want to share this resource with as many artists and creatives as possible and encourage you to use the space to create more opportunities whether that’s meeting with artists or clients or gallerists.

Within our fixed studios, we insist that our artists regularly attend their studio and are committed to their craft. The reason for this is so that the building is alive, vibrant and a source of inspiration to others. By having clear standards, it means that we have a large selection of brilliant artists at the core of our community who share opportunities and experience with artists earlier in their careers.

Our workshops are an essential resource for kindred artists and makers. We currently have a fully equipped ceramic and print workshop with large scale equipment for ambitious work.

This gives you 7 hours per month in our 4,000 or 7,500 sqft shoot space and permission to use parts of the building for portrait photography.

For performance based practices, receive 2 hours per week in our rehearsal space. These hours can be accumulated over a month to give you one 8 hour session.

The Kindred Programme is focussed on continued learning in a peer-led environment. It features exhibitions, performances, lectures, support groups, intimate artist studio visits, parties and ongoing weekly workshops like life drawing. All of this is included within £164 per month fee.

Open Studios is a major public annual event that is attended by around 10,000 people. It is brilliant way to connect with the public, spread the word about what we do and gain exposure with an engaged and passionate audience.

Artist Abbas Zahedi will continue his Art Support Groups which have been delivered over the past year at Tate Modern in our new building. These will be available to all Kindred’s artists and creatives.

Every month we host a lecture in the building for everyone in Kindred. We believe that as an art building we have a responsibility to be a platform for continued learning and imagining better futures.

We host a range of performance art shows and events throughout the year in which you are invited to attend or be part of.
